From our expert interviews.
Damien Cambefort, interviewed September 2026, on when France actually buys:
French annual negotiations are statutory. They open at the end of October and must be closed by 28 February, and the penalty for missing that deadline falls on the retailer rather than on the supplier. So the window to be in front of a French buyer with a private-label proposal runs roughly from November to February. Outside it, you are waiting for next year.

Every retailer here sells imported product. The question is never whether they import. It is whether they will contract with you directly, or expect you to arrive through an importer.
Published route for overseas suppliers records one narrow thing: whether the retailer publishes a supplier route aimed at suppliers based outside France. That is a fact about their website, not a statement about what they buy or where from. The Direct or via importer column is the one that answers the real question. It reads Not established on every row, because no retailer publishes this. Our market experts are filling it.
